Wildwood New Jersey

Wildwood New Jersey is a great place to visit, especially if you have kids.  Even though we spent two days in Wildwood I'm still a little confused because there's Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest.  All beach cities right on the Atlantic Ocean, but apparently the "atmosphere" is different at each location.

I think North Wildwood is where all the bars are located and is more geared for college students and adults.

But we stayed in a little tiny motel, and I do mean little tiny, right at the beginning the of the 2½ mile boardwalk.  The boardwalk is fun.  You name it shops filled with cotton candy, fudge, tee shirts, bathing suites, jewelry and about every kind of junk food imaginable.

But the nice thing is that boardwalk is completely family oriented and there are all kinds of activities for the kids on the beach.  Including movies right on the beach.  They have these great big inflatable movie screens and you can sit on the beach and watch a movie every night.  Fireworks every Friday evening.

Bicycle rentals, every kind of bike imaginable.  You can ride the bikes on the boardwalk until about 11:00 am.  After that time it's pedestrian traffic only, except for the famous Wildwood Boardwalk Tram Car that will haul you from one end of the board to the other and will stop anywhere along the way to pick you up.

Unlike Ocean City, Maryland I didn't see any bars in the area of the boardwalk, which makes it nice for families with young children.  Of course if you are into the bar scene I'm told there are some really hopping places in other areas of Wildwood.

On the beach there is a small amusement park, and they even have a monster truck on the beach that you can ride around the beach in the back of the truck.  Strapped in of course.

I've both good and bad things about Wildwood so I think it depends on which part of Wildwood you visit.  We were right there on the boardwalk and our motel room was very small, but it was fresh and clean and just a few steps from the boardwalk.  Ask lots of questions.  And also, book your trip in advance, it's a busy place in the summer.
